PROFESSOR CARLTON
(aka, DR. CARLTON) has a doctorate in literature with an emphasis on Song Lyric Poetry; his doctorate thesis was entitled: "Poetry's Nuovo Holocaust: The Nuantic Poetic Marvels of Song Lyrics Lost Amidst Instrumentals." It is the objective of Professor Carlton, or Doctor Carlton, whichever you prefer, to facilitate an opportunity to relish in the beauty of song lyrics that one often misses because of the instrumental accompaniment.

Professor Carlton explores 'songs without music' in his weekly SONG READING.

HOW DID PROFESSOR CARLTON GET STARTED IN POP MUSIC READINGS..?

IN HIS WORDS...

"I was driving home one day (or should I say, I was "homebound") and I flipped on the radio and what did I hear? For the 1000th time..?

My daughter (Vanessa Carlton's) spectacular song "1000 Miles." And how did I feel, for the 1000th time? Nirvanic. I was in a woolgathering state of Shangri-la. But it occurred to me..

People may JUST be enjoying the
"do-do-do-do-do-do" melody of my daughter's smash hit -- thereby missing the significant lyrical poetic genius of the words behind the majestic music. And what I realized on that fateful day was that one cannot even begin to appreciate the lyrical poetic marvels of a song while the song's instrumentality is doing its job on you...

And so, I decided to begin my own recordings (lyrical-only recordings) of those songs with the greatest lyrical poetic wonderment, in order to give poetic homage to the lyrics. "

And that's why, when listening to Professor Carlton's song readings, especially of his daughter's songs, you'll often find yourself asking, "Is it abstract belles-lettres, or is it belles-lettres itself?"
